The Cable Center

The Cable Center forms partnerships with secondary and higher educational institutions to offer programs concentrating on the cable industry and its impact on society. Through these partnerships, The Center presents outstanding academic seminars, lecture series, and coursework. Using state-of-the-art technology, The Center provides faculty and students with opportunities to learn about emerging cable technology and programming from leading industry figures.

One of the important facets of these initiatives is The Magness Institute, which develops managerial expertise in the cable industry through education and practical applications.

The Center’s Magness Institute and Programming Institute also bring together leading U.S. academics, cable industry executives, and leading journalists for panel discussions and forums. These create new ways of understanding and thinking about the cable industry.

  • Urban Education Initiative As part of range of activities centered on the Hispanic community, The Programming Institute at The Cable Center partnered with A&E Network and Comcast for the screening of The History Channel's Unsung Heroes: Hispanics and the Medal of Honor.
  • The John and Joan Goddard Cable Center Book Award honors excellence in journalism and scholarship through an annual award presented to an outstanding book focused on cable telecommunications. More ››
  • Austin W. Shanfelter Dissertation Research Grant supports scholarly research about the cable industry by providing financial assistance for Ph.D. candidates who write dissertations on aspects of cable telecommunications. More ››
