Who started cable television in the United States?
Cable television began in 1948 in the U.S., and the first systems were developed by James Y. Davidson in Arkansas, Leroy “Ed” Parsons in Oregon, and John Walson and Martin Malarkey in Pennsylvania. These pioneers began their cable systems within weeks of each other.

What year did HBO begin?
HBO broadcast its first pay television program in 1972.

How do I contact my cable company?
Find your cable company under our Cable Operators links. If you do not know who your cable company is, you can contact the cable association for your state or contact the Library at libraryinfo@cablecenter.org.

How do I start a cable network?
The National Cable and Telecommunications Association and the FCC Media Bureau both provide guidelines to starting a cable network.

Is The Barco Library open to the public?
The Library is open to all researchers by appointment. We are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM -5:30 PM.

Can I check an item out?
The Library’s collections are non-circulating and must be viewed at the library, but we do have copy machines available to our patrons.
