Peter Stern HeadshotLIVING HISTORY

As part of its Cable History Project, The Cable Center spent the first half of 2016 adding new oral and video histories and digitizing older histories into The Hauser Oral History Collection. The new entries include: Phil Lind, Matt Polka, John Sie, Peter Stern, Michael Smith and Louis Williamson.

The Hauser Oral History Collection is the only repository of firsthand accounts direct from industry leaders about the creation, expansion and current state of the cable industry.

Jana L. Henthorn, president and CEO of The Cable Center said, “The beauty of oral histories is the blend of personal experiences and observations that might otherwise be lost forever. Snippets of information that might not seem salient or important to one person can be immensely significant to another.”

The Cable Center has been gathering, cataloging and digitizing oral histories from cable industry executives since its inception in 1985. To date, The Center has collected 340 video and audio histories, with more being added every year, all available on The Cable Center website and on YouTube. The videos are paired with the written transcript to assist with research purposes.

Add Fusion and Stir

INTX C5 Panel WebNewsletterThe Cable Center presented a panel discussion at INTX on the subscription economy and how “learning from others” can be used to reinvent customer service and reinvigorate a company’s bottom line. “Customer experience and customer care are top priorities in the subscription economy, and a primary area of focus for The Cable Center,” said Jana L. Henthorn, president and CEO, The Cable Center.

The session, Add Fusion and Stir: The Creative Magic of Blended Thinking … And How You Can Prosper From It began with a presentation by Dr. Charles Patti, Cox Chair in Customer Experience Management at The Cable Center and former Dean of the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business, who shared a summary of The Center’s subscription economy study. A short presentation by Valerie McNamara, VP Business Development, World Service/Relationship Care, American Express followed, offering insights gained from their service benchmarking and transformation efforts, and how premium service delivery drives positive business outcomes.

Moderated by Dr. Patti, the panel was comprised of Jon Ezrine, chief operating officer and SVP, Nexidia, Inc. at NICE Systems; Lisa Modisette, VP and Business Solutions Executive, Netcracker Technology; Graham Tutton, VP Customer Journey & Analytics, Comcast Cable. They discussed how the concept of fusion has reinvented and reinvigorated industries; best practices from companies that have adopted the fusion approach; and key learnings about innovation within the subscription economy.

Industries such as medicine, music and transportation have benefited tremendously from embracing diverse concepts and creating something new, original and vital from them, and it is vitally important for media and communications companies to understand how they can benefit from these ideas as well,” said Dr. Patti.
