DENVER, April 11, 2017 – The Cable Center announced that Andrea Mitchell, NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent and host of MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” will emcee the 20th annual Cable Hall of Fame. The Cable Center will host the Cable Hall of Fame celebration Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, D.C.
In addition to politics, Mitchell covers foreign policy, intelligence and national security issues for all NBC News and MSNBC properties. In 2015, she was recognized by New York Women in Communications with the prestigious Matrix Award for her excellence in broadcast journalism.
“It is such a pleasure to welcome Andrea as the master of ceremonies for our Cable Hall of Fame celebration,” said Jana L. Henthorn, president and chief executive officer, The Cable Center. “We are looking forward to welcoming industry friends and associates as we gather to salute our six honorees at the Cable Hall of Fame Celebration in just two weeks in Washington, D.C.”
The Cable Hall of Fame celebration will begin with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and the induction ceremony honoring: Steve Burke, CEO, NBCUniversal; Jill Campbell, EVP and COO, Cox Communications; Mike Fries, CEO, Liberty Global; Ken Lowe, chairman, president and CEO, Scripps Networks Interactive; “The Sopranos,” television drama series; David Chase, creator; HBO; and David Zaslav, president and CEO, Discovery Communications. The event program will also include the presentation of the Bresnan Ethics in Business Award, honoring the late William J. Bresnan, to Frank M. Drendel. A festive after-party concludes the evening’s activities.
Mitchell authored “Talking Back,” a memoir about her experiences as one of the first women to cover five presidents, congress and foreign policy in September 2005. That year, Mitchell also received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment freedoms.
A native of New York, Mitchell received a B.A. in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania where she currently serves as a trustee, a member of the Executive Committee and chair of the Annenberg School Advisory Board.
