How the 10G Challenge Encourages Intrapreneurs to Drive Innovation
Innovation propels the world forward. With streaming services, apps, and smartphones seemingly omnipresent in our lives, players across the cable industry need to ensure broadband networks keep ahead of demand to support emerging experiences.
Around the world, more people are using more devices to engage in increasingly diverse and complex experiences across those devices, placing nearly limitless demand on our networks. The so-called third industrial revolution transformed how people entertain themselves—and our digital future depends on another revolution to power the next-generation innovations that consumers will be able to use every day.
What is 10G?
The broadband network of the future, 10G will deliver internet speeds of 10 gigabits per second, with the power and capacity to support whatever innovations the future might hold. Offering speeds 10 times faster than the fastest internet currently available—and 100 times faster than what most consumers currently experience—10G is a combination of technologies that provides lower latencies, enhanced reliability and better security in a scalable manner.
This array of new technologies—some of which are already being implemented, while others are still being developed—works together to achieve 10G speeds and support all of the data moving across the network while providing uninterrupted connectivity and greater protection. From several DOCSIS and fiber optics technologies to advancements in Wi-Fi and network management systems, a variety of essential new technologies are coming our way—and our cable broadband networks will be ready for the technologies, services, and applications that will power our future.
The 10G Challenge
The future of connectivity depends on technical enhancements that will change the way we live, work, learn, and play. Committed to helping advance our 10G-dependent future, CableLabs has organized the 10G Challenge on behalf of the industry, a competition designed to encourage innovators to develop new solutions that impact the way society lives, works, learns and plays.
Powered by CableLabs in collaboration with industry expert judges Mayo Clinic, Corning, Zoom and Intel, the 10G Challenge aims to inspire innovators to leverage the emerging 10G network to develop the life-changing technologies and services that will impact the world for the better. The contest has four categories: live, work, learn and play. To win, participants must submit a three-minute video describing or demonstrating their solution and the problem it solves, why it is dependent on low latency, reliability, security and/or speed, and how it will impact the way we live, work, learn, or play.
One winner will be chosen for each category as well as a Grand Prize Winner and a People’s Choice Winner. Each winner will receive a cash prize, with the Grand Prize Winner taking home $100,000. The Grand Prize Winner and four category winners will also receive the opportunity to present their idea at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2022.
Intrapreneurs Accelerating the Delivery of Technologies that Impact the World
As an intrapreneur, you and your team are probably already working on a special idea or project that requires higher bandwidth or lower latency to deliver delightful consumer experiences.
Today, it is critical that organizations across the connectivity sector remain on the leading edge, and your organization has made significant investments in perceiving challenges, opportunities, and exploring the possibility of creating outcomes with both measurable and intangible benefits. You have an idea for the next big thing that will solve a significant problem and revolutionize the way the world works, but technology hasn’t quite caught up to your vision for the world.
With the cable industry embarking on the development of 10G services, there’s a strong foundation of experience and technology to build upon. Ideas are the seeds of innovation, and the 10G network has the power and capacity to support whatever comes next. With faster internet speeds, lower latency, enhanced reliability, and better security, previously inconceivable technologies that keep us all that much more connected will be made possible.
Do you or your team have a vision for the future and the technology that will make it happen but just don’t have the resources to bring that idea to life? The 10G Challenge can help support and inspire you to make your vision a reality. Submit your idea today!
